Where Aviation Infrastructure Meets Defense Opportunity

Strategic hangar development is emerging as a critical infrastructure priority across the country. As defense missions expand and aviation technologies evolve, states are recognizing that modern hangar capacity is essential to supporting military operations, attracting defense industry investment, and protecting high-value aviation assets.

Across the nation, public and private partners are investing in hangar infrastructure to strengthen defense readiness, secure federal funding, and position their states for long-term aerospace growth. From state appropriations to federal grant programs and innovative public-private partnerships, funding models are evolving to meet the increasing demand for secure, mission-ready facilities.

Modern hangar infrastructure is more than an airport improvement; it is a strategic asset that supports national defense initiatives, enhances economic competitiveness, and ensures long-term operational resilience. The following resources highlight how states are advancing hangar development, the funding mechanisms supporting these projects, and why this infrastructure is essential to meeting today’s national security priorities.

Infrastructure That Delivers Results

Designed for Expansion. Built for Opportunity.

The Site 01 Hangar Development Project at Stennis International Airport represents a strategic investment in the continued growth of the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s aerospace and defense industries. Developed by the Hancock County Port & Harbor Commission, this 50,000-square-foot, large aircraft-capable facility is designed to meet increasing demand for hangar space from defense, unmanned systems, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations.

Designed as a flexible, multi-tenant facility, the climate-controlled hangar will accommodate a range of aviation users while supporting long-term industrial expansion at the airport. The site layout also preserves space for future hangar development, ensuring scalable growth as market demand continues to accelerate.

Currently in design, with 100% completion anticipated in May 2026, the project is positioned to advance into public procurement in Summer 2026. Recognized as a Top 10 Recommended Project under the Gulf Coast Restoration Fund, the development strengthens the region’s competitive industrial aviation infrastructure.
