Stennis International Airport, Port Bienville Industrial Park and the Port Bienville Railroad have been awarded multimodal grants totaling more than $1 million from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission Chief Executive Officer Bill Cork said the grants will fund infrastructure improvements that will keep the county’s airport, industrial park and railroad efficient and competitive.
The $252,561 grant to Stennis International Airport will be used to construct a parking/containment area for fuel trucks and ground support equipment.
The $375,500 grant to Port Bienville Industrial Park will fund bumpers on bulkheads and the removal of wooden dolphin clusters.
Port Bienville Railroad’s $398,000 grant will pay for construction of a 1,270-foot rail spur.
MDOT Commissioner Tom King announced the annual grants to regional and municipal airports, ports, public transit systems and railroads throughout South Mississippi. “Each of these modes of transportation play a vital role in transporting people, goods and services that promote economic growth and development throughout Mississippi,” King said.
