HANCOCK COUNTY PORT & HARBOR COMMISSION TO DEDICATE NEW HEADQUARTERS

January 3, 2017

KILN, MS – The Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission will close its headquarters on U.S. 90 in Waveland on Jan. 6 and open its new administration center inside Stennis International Airpark on Jan. 9.

The new 8,000-square-foot building at 14054 Fred and Al Key Road will be formally dedicated Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. The public is invited to the ceremony which will be hosted by the Hancock Chamber and the Kiln Business Council.

The building was designed by WHL Architecture of Mobile and constructed by Barnard and Sons Construction in Mendenhall.  Interior design was done by AOS in New Orleans, and Nora Mestayer Wikoff of Edward H. Wikoff Architect, Bay S. Louis.

The new facility will house the executive leadership of the Commission as well as the economic development, finance and administration staff.  The airport director and staff will be consolidated into the new building and their former offices at the Stennis International Airport terminal will be made available for lease.  Port Bienville and the railroad offices will remain at Port Bienville.

The new administration center will be dedicated to Robert Kane, the current Commission president, for his 20 years of service and his leadership through Hurricane Katrina.  The new board room will be dedicated to long-time commissioner and former secretary Harry Farve.  A conference room will be dedicated to Nancy Gex, the first woman appointed commissioner and a former Commission secretary.

“Often, when company leaders come to Hancock County looking to make an investment, our offices are the first building they enter. This contemporary and professional building will serve the county by establishing a strong first impression, as well as serve as a more fitting space to collaborate and be productive.” said Bill Cork, CEO of the Commission. “Dedicating the building and our public spaces to leaders of the Commission is an important recognition of the outstanding volunteer service these distinguished individuals have provided to Hancock County.  We encourage the public to come out, see the building and help us honor them on Feb. 9.”

The Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission was established in 1963 to lead the county’s economic development activities. Stennis International Airport and Port Bienville Industrial Park are home to more than 30 companies with 1,000 employees. For more information visit www.portairspace.com.
